Accessorise Your Wedding Dress

Todd W Cassidy

Hopefully you've found a wedding dress that you absolutely adore but your wedding styling journey isn't over yet. From brooches to earrings, you need to accessorise your wedding dress to complete your outfit.

This season is all about accessories, bright block colours and pastels, oversized flowers and bows, statement shoes and making your fashion fun. There are so many ways to accessorise your wedding dress - be guided by your overall style, be it classic and traditional, sleek and chic, boho and hippy, retro and vintage, or hipster cool.

Some accessories to consider are:

Corsages - a cute alternative to a bouquet, a corsage can be real or fake, and decorated in bright colours, ribbons, pearls and sparkles. Attach to your straps, skirt, in your hair or even onto a full bouquet.

Brooches - a very on-trend accessory, vintage-looking brooches are a versatile addition to your wedding outfit. They don't have to be actual antiques, there are a ton of gorgeous brooches for sale on the high street at the moment, so you'll have lots of choice of colours and styles. Attach to your bouquet, your dress straps, bodice or skirt, or pin in your hair. Pick a colour that goes with your flowers, your dress and your make up. Brooches make great accessories for your bridesmaids and can be given as gifts after the wedding.

Statement shoes - colourful shoes are in fashion - bright, bold and beautiful, let them peep from underneath your wedding gown hem for a cheeky and fun accessory. Go for strappy platforms and wedges for height without the wobble. Or if you plan on going barefoot, make sure you get a pedicure and think about blinging up your feet with toe rings and anklets!

Clutch bags - team up several accessories in one for a modern twist. A chic little clutch can be carried in place of your bouquet, brightened up with a corsage or a beautiful brooch. Functional and fabulous! Great for bridesmaids too, since they're the ones who'll no doubt be carrying around your make up and bits and bobs anyway!

Headbands - channel your inner flower child and go for a floral or sequin headband. A lovely way to add interest to your hairstyle and can be a cheap alternative to a tiara or veil. These can be accessorised even further with a little creativity, using flowers, feathers, brooches and ribbons.

Feather extensions - this is a hot new trend and suits the boho style of wedding - long feathers are weaved into your hair to bring colour and texture to hair. You can use natural or bright colours depending on your colour scheme.

Chandelier earrings - great as a contrast to a minimalist style of wedding gown, trailing earrings with oversized gemstones can add a pop of colour to your look and show off your neck and shoulders.

You probably want to stick to between one and three pieces to make your outfit complete - too many accessories will over complicate your look and draw attention away from your fabulous dress. Choose colours that fit with your wedding theme, suit your skin tone and complement the colours of your wedding gown.

Whatever your style and taste, there's a great selection of accessories in the shops at the moment to suit your wedding dress and personality. Choose with your bridesmaids for a fully coordinated array of accessories and details that will complete your wedding outfit.
